Visiting a local Farmer's Market

I look forward to my morning at the Boroondara Farmers Market each month. My kids happily come along and love meeting the dedicated farmers and helping to choose the fresh produce. We always buy 8 (!) dozen eggs from Mr Green, heaps of fresh fruit and vegetables and some yummy Greek cakes amongst other things! The cherries at Christmas time are to die for! The market sells produce from all around Victoria. You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, seasonal organic produce, meat, herbs, honey, eggs, bread, olives, cakes, dips and sauces, wine, beer and flowers!

It feels good to support the local farmers and to nurture our bodies with fresh food. I also like how it inspires the children to think about where our food comes from and to choose healthier options.

The Boroondara Farmers Market is held every third and fifth Saturday of the month from 8am to 1pm at Patterson Reserve, Auburn Road, Hawthorn East.

This Saturday is an extra special market in celebration of Community Safety Month and Children’s Week.

Representatives from many organisations will be on hand to answer any of your questions, and with the emergency services in attendance, kids can jump into a police car or fire truck if they want to!

If you don’t live close to Boroondara, google ‘’local farmers markets’’ and find one near to your home. Here is a link to others in Melbourne: http://mfm.com.au/
